Invisible Cities
This project is based on author Italo Calvino, he has created a series of cities based entirely around Venice. Women's names have been chosen to name each city. Ill be looking specifically at 19 places and drawing my own vision from the descriptions Calvino has given me.
After creating 100 thumbnails of these cities I'll select 3 for further development and finalize them into three Photoshop illustrations.

Week 1 Life Drawing
Above is the first warm-up drawing, I was allocated 15 minutes and used charcoal. |
Here is five 15 minute sketches using continuous line in pen. |
The final sketch took 15 minutes and the model had a pirate hat & sword. |
Overall I was thrilled with my final outcomes with all of my drawings, especially the pirate themed sketch. I find drawing on A2 very challenging as I find proportions can go off very easily. I was able to use charcoal and pen but I would like to explore more techniques such as graphite pencils and watercolour next week.

Still Life Photoshop 02
This is the 2nd out of the two still life speed sketches I have drawn using my Wacom graphics tablet. I found recreating the coloured photograph harder than the grey-scale apples in the previous drawing as creating the shadows was personally harder for me; that said I'm still very pleased with the finished outcome.

Still Life Photoshop 01
Above is my first quick sketch in photoshop using brushes I've never used before. I was trying to draw loosely and focus on mark making and shadows. I find still-life difficult but I am really pleased with this first attempt, I will be doing another fast sketch in Photoshop this week.

And finally, the last 11 sketches.
I found creating the 101 sketches much more challenging than first expected, simply due to trying to think up new and exciting designs without them being too similar.
I previously had never done a task like this before so this was a first for me, although a long and slightly tedious process I did enjoy doing the 101 drawings and had a real sense of achievement after completing them.

Summer Project 2016
For the beginning of this course I have been assigned to create a total of 101 different designs in 3 different categories; Animals, Machines and Structures. I have also been given a large selection of random shapes and items that I must incorporate into each design. Each idea is not a final idea, but just a thumbnail sketch/design for improving and development later if chosen as one of my three favorites at the end.
The Beginning of Something New
Well, here we go...
I am Ruth, an aspiring animator who has always had a passion for Art and Design. Creating a blog is a first for me, so I apologize for its beginning to be a bit rough around the edges!
I am going into the first year of my Animation Course at UCA Rochester where I will hopefully be creating and designing new and exciting ideas all to be posted onto this blog. My course is ongoing for 3 years where I and hopefully anyone looking at my work will see my challenges, explorations and my development over the course of the three years!
I hope everyone looking will enjoy my blog and be inspired by my work :)
Thank you, and enjoy!
